Learn4Life, an after-school programme for 96 Key Stage 2 children and young people aged 5-8 years, who face the risk of failing the school system, socially, emotionally and academically.
Charity information: Clapton Common Boys Club
At CCBC, we address the needs of each child. Many of the children we target exhibit difficulties on a personal, social and/or emotional level. A number of them also have mild special educational needs. We offer emotional support and a listening ear to scores of disadvantaged children, within a warm and nurturing environment. Through our programmes we aim to develop the skills, talents and academic achievement of our users.
1. Close the gap between the percentages of people in Hackney with no qualifications at all. Children will attend 'stay and learn' or 'stay and read' sessions. These user-lead sessions will include reading, learning, creative activities and homework time.
2. Ensure educational improvement of Hackney's children and young people is excellent and that educational performance by school leaving age is consistently above the national average. Benefits spill into other areas of childrens lives.
Close the gap between the percentages of people in Hackney with no qualifications at all.
Activities» Provide intense homework and reading support.
Success will be that from close educational failure, the participants will be transformed into participating active class members fulfilling their utmost potential.
Develop children self esteem, confidence, skills and abilities.
Activities» Improve the Childrens' Behaviour, Social and Emotional skills.
Success will be that children will be more content within themselves making new friends. They will be more confident and motivated to actually do something positive with lives.
The participants of Something Special will have long-term improved and developed skills, including; improved cognitive, intellectual, emotional, behavioural, personal, social, communicative and / or interactive skills. We will demonstrate the successes by working closely with local schools to track the progress of the students and we will measure success through the BDA evaluative system. A questionnaire will be dispensed to the children annually , to see if they are satisfied with the progress.
There is a risk that one or some of the youth volunteers could pull out the programme. We have dealt with this risk by having a back-up of experienced volunteers to ensure we are best placed to replace any late drop outs.
The Trustees sit for monthly meetings with the youth workers, educational psychologist and the project coordinator. They will discuss the success rates and specific changes as well as other relevant information. The Coordinator will write a report with the outcomes, that will be emailed to our donors

Learn4Life! Will educate and prepare disadvantaged children for a lifetime of educational success - creating many successful and flourishing young people and academically able children. Indeed, this will impact the confidence and abilities of them and their families, as they share their newly-acquired skills with their families and friends.
Clapton Common Boys Club has been running successfully for the past four and ahalf years and in this time has developed into an effective, popular organisation that runs a range of activities for local children. As a community-based organisation, its trustees are in tune with local need and develop services accordingly
