North West Lochaber Church of Scotland Development
To upgrade and develop our outdated buildings to better serve the people of this remote rural parish. We need to comply with 21st century standards with regard to access and environmental health. With better buildings we can serve our communities more effectively.
January 2014 - September 2018
North West Lochaber Church of Scotland
Our outdated buildings restrict our ability to serve the people of our communities from the very young to the elderly.
By providing modern facilities which can provide a meeting point for all ages in the community.
Upgrade our buildings to 21st century standards.
Activities» There is an ongoing programme to make our buildings wind and watertight which will lead on to upgrading the interiors.
Completing the upgrading process over the next four years.
We aim to increase the community use of our buildings and increase our contact with the local people generally and not just our own members. As a parish church we aim to serve everyone in whatever way is appropriate. The parish covers a vast area of the West Highlands of Scotland and it is a logistical challenge to serve such scattered communities. These include the islands of Canna, Eigg, Muck and Rum along with the peninsula of Knoydart which can only e reached by boat.
For a small congregation it is a challenge to maintain and develop buildings in such an exposed location. There is a risk of buildings deteriorating quickly in the adverse weather. We are pressing ahead with work as fast as we are able and as funds permit before the situation worsens.
