Thyroid disorders information programme
Access to reliable information makes a huge difference to how a patient manages a long term condition. We provide 14 comprehensive leaflets covering all the major thyroid disorders which are now due to be reviewed and updated.

Charity information: The British Thyroid Foundation
It is estimated that up to 1 in 20 people in the UK are affected by thyroid disorders. It is mostly women who are diagnosed but men, children and even babies can be affected too. The impact of an unmanaged thyroid disorder on the physical and mental well being of a person can be devastating and sadly patients are often unaware of how important their thyroid is. One of our ongoing aims is to raise the profile of thyroid disease and to help people with it to best look after themselves.
The BTF provides information that gives people a better understanding of their thyroid disorder which in turn enables them to have more control of their thyroid health. Our information is endorsed by leading thyroid specialists and we are confident that people we help get the very best support. Our 14 information leaflets are currently being reviewed and updated by a panel of medical specialists and patients. This project will help with the costs of printing and distributing them.
To cover the costs of printing and distributing the revised information leaflets.
Activities» Print the edited and approved texts and then distribute them to patients and other medical specialists as and when requested.
With a new stock of BTF literature we can focus on ensuring that it is distributed to the people who will benefit from it.
The leaflets will help create better informed patients who will be in a stronger position to look after their thyroid health. They will also raise awareness of the work we do. We hope to demonstrate this success through increased revenue from membership and from donations and fundraising support.
BTF has produced patient literature for many years and we know that it is an invaluable resource to patients. We don't believe that this project involves any great risks.
We will be able to let our supporters know when the new leaflets have been printed. Through stock control we can measure the numbers of leaflets that are distributed.

The project will benefit people throughout the UK.
People who are affected by thyroid disorders, or think they may be, as well as their families and carers will be better informed as a result of the successful completion of this project. The information is also available to read on the BTF website but we know that there are many people affected who do not have access to a computer and prefer to be able to digest it from a hard copy. Hospitals and clinics often choose to buy the leaflets as a resource for their patients.
The BTF was established in 1991 and since then has worked in partnership with medical professionals and thyroid patients to provide the highest standard of information and support. Thousands of people contact the charity each year to ask for reliable information and advice about their thyroid disorder. Through our respected partnership with the British Thyroid Association (thyroid specialists) we are also a source that is trusted to supply information to hospitals and surgeries.
