A WAY OUT (At-risk Women And Youth OUTreach)

Our vision is that women and young people should be free to live healthy, whole and safe lives, free from addiction, poverty and exploitation. We are a value-driven organisation based on Christian beliefs, that aims to reach out, engage and support highly vulnerable women, young people & families

A WAY OUT started in 2002 and we strive daily to continue our work until the need is met

    Need

    93% of onstreet sex workers used an illegal drug in past 6mths;85%heroin,87%cocaine,survival sex is self-medicating due to historic abuse/trauma & linked to poor mental health,depression,PTSD,bipolar;many experience extreme violence& increased health risks. In Stockton alcohol related hospital admissions are higher than average;life expectancy is much lower through alcohol misuse&mortality is higher than the national average;it has some of the worst statistics nationally for depression&sadness

    Outreach/Engagement Work day/night,a listening ear,safety/health advice,signpost support.Recovery &Counselling address social,emotional&physical need,holistic support via faith/recovery communities,life-skills,Recovery Programme.Rehabilitation & Exit prostitution,a life free from addiction&abuse.Youth outreach positive activities,targeted to improve future of vulnerable young people via weekly clubs in schools.Family intervention addressing offending behaviour,school exclusion,unemployment

    Aim 2

    We will reach women involved in prostitution who are socially excluded and homeless.

    We will reach vulnerable families struggling with debt, anti-social behaviour and exclusion.

    Work collaboratively with a range of agencies to support for women on a journey of recovery&change.Recovery&Counselling:Tackling causes & dealing with complex needs through therapeutic counselling/intensive Recovery Programme.Social inclusion&functioning:Providing opportunities for relationship&social engagement activities, confidence building & peer support.Housing&Independent living support:Providing access to good quality housing, continued independent living support and homelessness support

    Risk

    The main risk is related to funding.Strategic fundraising is part of our business plan.We aim for a more equal mix of income by ‘15 by:Increase ability to win Statutory Commissioned work for service delivery.Continue to apply to major Charitable Trusts for replacement funding for specific projects,whilst also seeking to attract small unrestricted grants towards core costs&pioneering projects.Increase levels of unrestricted funding from Community&Events, Regular Giving, Corporate&Church engagemen

    Reporting

    Regular newsletters/e-news sent to donors.
    Reports are produced for funders on a regular basis throughout the year, including statistics in reference to the evaluation process.
