Passion Fruit Project
Every summer, Young & Inspired run a two-week residential holiday for disadvantaged teens in Hackney and surrounding areas.
August 2014 - August 2016
Young And Inspired
Children and teens growing up in low-income, dysfunctional homes are severely disadvantaged, and have less opportunities to their peers. During the summer, when their peers head off to the mountains or sea, they stay behind in the city, with nothing to do- other than stew in their resentment.
As a result, when their classmates return to school refreshed from their holiday and ready to learn, they start school with a load of anger and resentment, impeding their education and relationships
Passion Fruit Project gives the children everything-in one holiday. Exciting trips, interesting workshops, vital life skills, new friends-at Passion Fruit, they get it all. The young people experience new things every day- and go home changed, new people. We are not just providing them with summer occupation- we provide them with a project designed to teach them vital life skills, learn new things, develop new relationships and change them for the better.
Enhance the lives of our users through the project, setting them up for success in life.
Activities» -Run important educational workshops, including time management, budgeting, personal health and hygiene, and so on.
» -Provide the young people with exciting, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities they would never have otherwise, including theme park trips, etc.
» -Build up their confidence and self-esteem, and enable them to reach their potential socially, emotionally and physically.
Success will be: enabling 120 young people and 30 young adults to participate in the project, and enjoy a fulfilling and life altering summer.
Through the project, the young people will see improved academic success, have healthier self-image and self-esteem, and increased confidence. They will make and keep more friends,
There is a risk that we won't manage to raise enough funds for the projects- we will ensure this isn't so by raising funds the entire year. Risks such as lack of accommodation, coaches, trips, food, staff etc have all been mitigated by thorough planning in advance, and having necessary risk assessment policies in place.
We will report to donors at the completion of the Passion Fruit Project, at the end of August. We will also send out quarterly newsletters to all donors, letting them know how the participants are doing, after the project has come to an end.

Hackney has one of the highest levels of child poverty in the UK. This means that over half of all children growing up in Hackney will be living below the poverty line. Therefore, children in Hackney do not have equal opportunities to their peers. Young & Inspired provide out of hours activities to children in Hackney- children that might not have a garden to play in, children that might not eat breakfast on a daily basis, or children who are struggling at school yet can't afford help.
Children and teens living in Hackney rarely have opportunities for fun and leisure activities. Local children and teens, as well as young adult volunteers will benefit from the project, by accessing quality leisure-time activities in the summer, when they would otherwise sit at home and have nothing to do.
Through the several projects that we run, we work with over 800 children and teens in Hackney. As a result, we know the issues that the children face, and we know their needs. We also know what does and doesn't work. In addition, we have carried out our Passion Fruit Project for several years now, and have the knowledge and expertise to put together a great project, and ensure that every single participant enjoys it to their utmost, and reaches their full potential.
