  • Need

Over the last 10 years, the GSA has invested significantly in its estate and had ambitious plans to create a campus that met our academic aspirations.
The Mackintosh Building fire in May 2014 required the School to pause and reconsider its approach.
The School needs to restore sympathetically this world heritage building at the heart of our campus and still deliver on the estate needs of a world-leading studio-based institution.

The Mackintosh Campus Appeal will sympathetically and authentically restore the world-famous Mackintosh Building; return it to its original academic configuration as a home for our whole 1st year community of fine artists, designers and architects; and allow the acqusition and transformation of the former Stow building into a new home and studios for the School of Fine Art, bringing its academic departments together in one building for the first time in over 50 years.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To raise £32m for The GSA to recover from the consequences of the fire in the Mackintosh building.

» To solicit and accept donations from Trusts, Companies and Individuals

Success will be raising the funds to ensure that the project is delivered as planned.

  • Impact

It will return the world-famous Mackintosh Building to the heart of our campus and also fund the purchase and refurbishment of the Stow building.
The resultant transformation of our estate will be pivotal to our academic ambitions: for growth across our portfolio the creation of new studio spaces that encourage collaboration within and beyond our disciplines, with other academic partners, industry, the third sector and each other.

All donors will receive an initial acknowledgement through The Big Give, a formal letter of thanks from the Trust, a commemorative certificate, and all donors will be permanently recognised on a donor board within the Mackintosh Building.

The GSA takes seriously its responsibility both to restore this internationally iconic building and to ensure that it continues to be at the heart of our campus. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address our estate’s ambitions.

It is the only Art School in the world where the building is worthy of its subject … a work of art in which to make works of art
