The Lady Taverners Play Spaces Appeal
The Lady Taverners Play Spaces Appeal has been set up to provide children with disabilities the everyday opportunity to play. It is every child's right to experience the joy and benefits of play, so donate today and help make it happen for children in the UK living with a disability.
April 2014 - October 2015
Charity information: The Lord's Taverners
There are currently over 770,000 children under the age of 16 in the UK with a disability (6% of the child population). Improvements in medical science have seen a significant increase in children surviving premature birth, often resulting in ongoing complex health conditions.
Nearly (62%) of local authorities in England have cut their budgets for childcare and play services since 2011, and almost 50% are offering a reduced level of holiday childcare services.
‘Play’ is a fundamental part of childhood. It enables children to develop social skills, form friendships, develop physical skills and learn about and become confident in their environment. To meet the complex needs of severely disabled children and youngsters who face challenging barriers to engage in mainstream activity, the Lady’s Taverners Play Spaces Appeal will look to provide young disabled people across the UK with the range of outdoor and soft play equipment.

Activities» Through linking with local groups and partnerships.
What success will look like
Success will be providing 25 schools with adaptable and specialized sensory and outdoor play equipment.
The project will enable disabled children across the UK to develop social skills, form friendships, develop physical skills and learn about and become confident in their environment.Furthermore it is proven to improve children’s physical and mental health, help develop emotional responses and learning skills and improving basic numeracy and
literacy. It is essential for special schools catering for children with severe learning and physical disabilities to have access to suitable facilities.
The risk is we are unable to raise the funds necessary to provide the specialized equipment.
Funders of this project will receive a monthly newsletter on the project detailing the ongoing and forthcoming activities, and any necessary changes that have been made to the project plans.
