Mobile Schools for street children & slum dwellers
Set up mobile schools (classrooms in buses) to provide education to orphans and abandoned children, living on the streets and in slums around cities in developing countries.
Charity information: ChildrenPlus
Most street children and those living in slums do not have access to education primarily because of the lack of schools. In most cases, the space simply does not exist to build the schools. This results in high levels of illiteracy, which compounds and exacerbates the problem caused by poverty.
We will convert buses into classrooms and take these mobile schools to the slums and other deprived areas with no access to schools.
Provide education to orphans and street children living in areas with no access to schools.
Activities» Purchase and convert buses into classrooms and employ teachers and teaching assistants to provide free education to children, along with a cooked meal
Success will be measured by the number of children we school and educate.
Education is a means to escaping the cycle of poverty in which our target group is caught. Education dramatically increases employability. Thus an educated child not only has better prospects in life, but could be the means by which a family escapes poverty.
The biggest risk is that of the theft of vehicles and/or their contents. However, we will minimise this by parking the buses in secure, locked garages at night, and ensuring that no valuable equipment is stored in the buses.
We will produce annual reports detailing the activities of the Mobile Schools. We will also update our website regularly to show progress and achievements.

Orphans, displaced and abandoned street children, who would otherwise have no opportunity or means to get even a basic education.
We are already working in our target areas, on other projects, and are familiar with the issues related to this project. We will work with a delivery partner with experience with this type of project. We have also identified and contacted vehicle suppliers.
