Trekking the Brecon Beacons for Soundworks

Arts Active’s Dave Baxter will do a 27 mile trek to raise money for Soundworks, a project which enables adults with physical and learning difficulties to make music at St David’s Hall, Cardiff. The aim is to buy instruments, equipment, and put on a special Soundworks performance in the Welsh Proms.

  • Need

    Need

Soundworks needs funding to continue offering enjoyable music making sessions for adults coping with physical and learning difficulties.

    Solution

We’re trying to raise £1000 to purchase some instruments and equipment, pay for more players and also put on a special Soundworks performance as part of the Welsh proms for our Soundworks participants and others.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We’re trying to raise £1000 for The Arts Active Trust and Soundworks.

    Activities

» On the 8th of June, 2014, Arts Active’s very own Dave Baxter will be pushed to the limits in a sponsored 27 mile trek across the Brecon Beacons.

By reaching our target of £1000 we will be able to purchase some instruments and equipment, pay for more players and also put on a special Soundworks Proms performance.

  • Impact

    Impact

Receiving donations ensures Arts Active can continue to offer sessions led by specialist musicians, which are fun, informal and hugely satisfying for the participants. The workshops also provide an opportunity for support workers to develop skills in using music to build up their clients’ levels of social interaction, communication skills and confidence, and of course enjoying music making at the National Concert Hall of Wales.

    Risk

27 MILES. 12 HOURS. DAVID BAXTER vs. THE BRECON BEACONS

Dave faces exhaustion, hunger, shortness of breath, and possibly dodgy knees. He is planning a rigourous training programme to ensure he will make it through the trek.

    Reporting

Visit our blog to see how Dave's training is going, and how fundraising is progressing. The blog will continue after the walk, demonstrating how the money is being used.
