  • Need

According to the respondents of Lambeth Residents Survey Stockwell is the area with the lowest level of community cohesion in the borough. There is a great need for initiatives promoting integration and inclusion. Since the area is very diverse it is essential to bring the different communities living in Stockwell together. Therefore, an enjoyable event promoting Stockwell in all its richness would be a great step towards building a sense of belonging among the residents.

The Festival is a chance to celebrate the unique creativity, energy and diversity of Stockwell. The event gathers thousands of local residents in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. It is an opportunity to make new contacts, find out more about the neighborhood and get involved in the community. Local businesses, artists and charities are provided with a unique opportunity to promote themselves among the local residents. Since the event's aim is to promote social inclusion, it is free of charge.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To deliver the biggest and brightest Stockwell Festival ever in 2018

» Involve local charities, residents, the council and businesses in planning and running the event through a Festival steering group
» Plan, fund-raise for, and promote the festival in Stockwell and Lambeth
» Attract local artists and stallholders (local charities and businesses) to take part in the event
» Recruit volunteers; co-ordinate the Festival; evaluate the event

    What success will look like

Our success will be demonstrated through the number of people attracted by the event as well as the monitoring and evaluation of participants, volunteers and stallholders

  • Impact

The Festival will help strengthen our community by providing:
    a) an opportunity for 5000 people to come outdoors, enjoy the local park, and meet other residents
    b) information on activities being run in the local area and opportunities for getting involved in the community
    c) several activities on the day to increase health and well-being
Our volunteers will gain a wide range of skills which will help them to become more employable.

There is a risk that we may not be able to attract the total funding required to run several key activities at the Festival. Stockwell Partnership has increasingly diversified our partners and funding streams to mitigate this.
There is otherwise a very large number of risks - eg security, lost children, first aid, failure of stallholders / volunteers / acts to turn up, bad weather etc - which we manage through a comprehensive risk assessment and liaison with the emergency services / council.

A report on the event will be produced. Photos of the event will be published at Stockwell Festival facebook profile.

  • Background

Stockwell is densely populated with seven housing estates but has few communal buildings, a lack of community activities, and a deficiency of shared public space. Larkhall Park is the bigger of two parks in the local neighbourhood, but it is often seen as dangerous. The Festival is a great way of getting people out and using the park positively.

In the context of the local needs we feel that the festival, which was such a resounding success in 2017, is more needed than ever as a means of bringing people together; building trust; creating opportunities for local organisations and employers to raise their profile and meet clients; and helping volunteers increase their employability skills. Each year the predominant message that comes out of the evaluation is that people want to see more of this kind of activity in Stockwell.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Stockwell Partnership is a charity run by local people for local people from Stockwell. We are one of the most long lived organisations in the area. We aim to improve the quality of life in the local neighbourhood by undertaking projects, building partnerships, and supporting residents to take action on issues they care about. We have previously delivered 15 Stockwell Festivals which were rated as excellent or good by the vast majority of participants responding to the monitoring survey.
