  • Need

Children in the UK face serious social issues. Sport has been proven to help children face these issues and become leaders themselves.
Sport can work in disadvantaged areas where the children and young people face a wide variety of social problems inc. gang membership, crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour.
Often coaches, teachers and leaders in grassroots sports programmes and development work in these areas don't have the necessary skills or training to deal with these issues using sport.

Laureus want to make a bigger difference to children's lives by training community members and staff to be Sport for Good coaches, increasing our reach and further improving the skills of trained staff.

We want to increase the number of coaches, young leaders and project staff using sport to tackle social issues and inspire young people.

To do this we will fund effective and proven training to over 300 coaches in the UK.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To train coaches, youth leaders and project staff to use sport to tackle wider social issues.

» Create training based on the expertise, experience and tools using 'Sport for Good' by our strategic partners in the UK and worldwide.
» Deliver training to a variety of organisations covering a range of topics from crime prevention through sport to empowering women through sport.
» Provide recognised qualifications in how to use sport to tackle social issues.

    What success will look like

We will monitor and evaluate the number of organisations and individuals trained.

  • Impact

The project will enable sport to be used to tackle wider social issues and have a greater long term impact on children's lives beyond the sport's field.

Organisations benefitting from training will be asked as part of the training to monitor and evaluate in greater detail the young people they work with and monitor their interaction with the organisation and beyond.

For every £1 spent on sports based projects with qualified youth workers, £4 is saved in youth justice system costs and more.

The risk is that the skills learnt are not supported in delivery.
To counter this Laureus is continuing to build it's network of supportive organisations and bodies. Laureus is placing itself as a leader in the sport for change sector enabling us to be at the forefront of change.

The training will be created with our strategic partners and reporting structure put in place.
Laureus as standard reports quarterly on projects.
