  • Need

There has been an increase in the number of younger children being referred to local specialistchild mental health services. The link between poor early attachments and behavioural and emaotional difficulties in later childhood has been evidenced. Babies whose parents face challenges with their own mental health, have a history of social care involvement, lack extended support, experience domestic violence are more at risk of poor attachment. There is a lack of local services to meet this need.

The project is a partnership between the chlildren's mental health services, midwifery service, health visitors and the voluntary sector, working together over the last 12 months to identify the issues and the most efective means of addressing the issues. The project will deliver a Video Interactive Guidance service offered by a pyschologist and supported by parent volunteers. We aim to support 25-30 vulnerable families who will be identifed by midwives and offered support for up to 18 months.
