Ending Homophobic Bullying in Schools
Our project will undertake to work closely with schools in Greater Manchester to address homophobic bullying in schools, using a peer led approach to encourage pupils & teachers to tackle bullying through a range of workshops, information giving events and links to other support networks and forums

Homophobia can have a devastating effect on the life of a young person. Feeling of isolation, alienation and low self esteem can be commonplace, leading to mental health problems, self harming, eating disorders and suicidal tendencies all of which affect life chances.
We want to tackle the inequalities faced by young LGB people (or those questioning their sexuality or gender identity) and also the issues caused by the fear of being 'outed' and what this would mean to their peers and families.
We would aim, through a series of workshops and assemblies, to tackle homophobic attitudes head on, challenging negative behaviors and providing support and advice. We aim to train at least two people from each organisation to provide support to those 'coming out' or experiencing bullying so there is always a safe place and a contact they know they can go to in times of need. This will then reduce drop out rates, loss of motivation and underachievement issues which can be the case.

Success of this project would be the LGF working with all schools and colleges within the Northwest & all schools having a 'Safer Schools Pack' and the resources to help themselves
It will bring about an improved awareness about the effects of homophobic bullying in schools & a commitment of young people to change & challenge attitudes.
The impact of this will be improved confidence, skills development & self esteem of LGB young people.
Also increased participation, reduction in isolation & a sense of being able to have a voice and be listened to without fear of come back.
This will be demonstrated by reporting from individuals in each school we stay in touch with.
There could be a difficulty in reaching out to and identifying the individuals within schools and college who most need out assistance. We would work more closely with those schools experiencing more difficulty in getting the young people to engage, giving more time to individuals who were keen to make a change at their school by giving them the tools and resources to be able to engage with the harder to reach young people.
We will report to donors through our bimonthly publication, weekly e-bulletins, monthly donor e-bulletins and annual report. Obviously the donor will be able to chose the frequency and type of contact they wish to recieve.

The project will cover every school, college and youth group in the North West
Any young person regardless of age, sexual orientation or gender definition from any area within the North West of England.
Any teacher or person administrating or running any youth group in the whole of the North West who wishes to use the tool kit and resources.
Any other stakeholder wishing to use the 'Safer Schools Pack' to tackle homophobia where young people attend e.g. work placements and volunteering placements.
The LGF is the longest standing most far reaching charity of its kind in the North West of England, our staff and volunteers are experienced in tackling homophobic behavior in schools and providing training to those wishing to be part of the solution.
