Citizenship - Helping Bridge the Generation Gap
Providing a safe, non-judgmental environment in which young people and older volunteers can engage in open topical discussions. Allows inter-generational people to explore their role and place in society. Reducing social stereotypes or barriers which helps each party to better understand each other

By engaging young people with older people, helps bridge the generation gaps and reduces stereotyping. By exploring topics inc: anti-social behavior, crime, racism, community issues, goals and aspirations allows open free communication. Some young people do not have a key adult figure to turn to, where they can openly talk to about any fears or anxiety. Some older people may not have younger siblings to interact with. Bringing together young people and older people helps join up society.
Working together between the generations allows individuals to communicate freely. Older volunteers have a real purpose in offering a listening ear, support, help and/or advice and young people who engage with older mentors, feel their views are valued and listened to. By inspiring younger people to become significant worthy individuals who contributes positively to society gives them new life goals and ambitions, which may help reduce anti-social behavior and crime figures.

By creating positive learning environments and influences for young people to expand their skills and development, ensuring recognition and fulfilment for tasks completed

What success will look like
Motivating young people to enjoy a better life for themselves and how they can create positive change by understanding society and community values
By changing long term opinions for participants involved by enabling free learning to take place within a non judgmental group allows new understanding to take place. The Parker Dementia Day Care Centre would welcome groups of young people to visit and discuss with staff and service users, dementia, causes and affects upon family, so young people can better understand and cope, especially if they experience someone with dementia.
Sessions can be chaotic with last minute requests or under subscribed groups. Pre-planned dates with number of attendees, ensures groups have experienced volunteer mentors at regular dates, ensuring more young people have access to free, positive 6 week discussion groups. Under-funding for printing materials or refreshments at exhibitions in schools, dementia or community centres, would reduce the ability to allow young people to showcase their own work and learn. School donations would help
Certain sessions would be allocated each month to provide written and oral feedback and videos and/or pictures showing the most reflective way donor's income has been allocated and the impact it has had on the young and older people. Feedback this way each month allows for a dynamic format.

We created a unique quality service. We know of no other free impartial organisation who provides the same service. Feedback reports from parents, users, schools show a reduction in anti-social behaviour, improvements in young people with special needs and long term change in attitudes which improves the community as a whole. Reducing the number of pupils about to be expelled or those showing signs of anti-social behaviour reported via schools, pupil referral units or youth offenders service
