Feeding a Community in South Africa
FoodBank South Africa aims to reduce hunger and malnutrition throughout South Africa working in communities.

South Africa produces enough food to feed its entire population yet 20% of it’s inhabitants are food insecure.
FoodBank rescues food destined for landfill, supplements it with staple foods and distributes nutritionally balanced meals to communities in the townships in South Africa. The aim is to help everyone in the community from young children to the elderly.

What success will look like
Maintain links with the community and request regular feedback.
Young children need adequate nutrition to develop and be educated so we will monitor school attendance and development s well as health records for the children.
As supermarkets become more competitive they provide FoodBank with less food so we may need to find food from other sources such as community gardens and developing farmers. We are liaising with the communities to grow some of their own food and helping farmers produce crops.
We have a database of donors who receive regular reports on our progress as well as information on our website.

The projects will be in the Western Cape and focus on the most deprived townships like Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Delft, Du Noon and Mannenberg.
FoodBank aims to help the vulnerable in the community; young and elderly, sick and unemployed. Provided we raise £12,000 we will be able to feed an estimated 2,000 people for 12 months.
FoodBank has the infrastructure in place to rescue and procure the food and then distribute it to the most needy in the community. The organisation has been in existence since 2009 and has relationships with suppliers and beneficiaries.
