  • Need

This is an exciting project to look for drugs that will increase utrophin in the body.

Boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy are missing a protein called dystrophin, which is crucial for muscle survival. Utrophin is a protein that acts in the same way as dystrophin.

This project will help to fund world-class scientific research at Oxford University and will help us to achieve our goal, to End Duchenne in Ten.

Dame Professor Kay Davies has been working on this treatment approach for many years and one of her drugs is about to go into a clinical trial.

This project will look at new models to see if they are more potent and effective. They have already developed an advance screening programme to pick out these compounds.

The project will run 24 months and the £20,000 we raise through the Christmas Challenge will help to fund the research.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We need £20,000 to spend on a project to look for drugs that will increase utrophin in the body

» We will co-fund the new utrophin research project led by Dame Professor Kay Davies at Oxford University

    What success will look like

We aim to exceed our fundraising total of £20,000 to help achieve our goals

  • Impact

Utrophin is a protein that acts in the same way as dystrophin, which boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy lack. Without dystrophin, muscles die. Our project will fund research by Dame Professor Kay Davies at Oxford University into drugs that could increase utrophin levels.

We communicate regularly with our followers through our Facebook and Twitter profiles and update them on all of our recent news and successes. Our own website is regularly updated with upcoming events and photos and videos of previous fundraisers.
