To provide a variety of services and support to vulnerable Irish Elderly, young people and travellers and gypsy communities. Supporting other organisations that have the same ethos and values. Promoting cultural and heritage projects to both the Irish and host communities.

  • Need


    To reduce loneliness and isolation, promoting education and health and well being amongst the target communities. Reducing negative stereotypes through education and workshops. Promoting cultural and sporting activities that improve health and well being and result community in community cohesion.


    The project will employ a community development worker who will deliver the outcomes through a range of activities including face to face work, working with other agencies and advocating on behalf of vulnerable Irish people in Leicestershire.

    Aim 1

    To relieve persons in need of poverty and distress of Irish but not exclusively of Irish descent

    » Workshops in the prevention of heart disease, stroke and cancer

    Aim 2

    Advance the education of the public


    » Through Irish Language and history classes
    » Through art workshops - producing drama and poetry
    » Through Irish music and promotion of Gaelic Sports

    Aim 3

    To improve conditions of life


    » Support healthy eating initiatives introduced through establishing regular weekly luncheon club and drop in sessions

    Aim 4

    To assist the Irish community to contribute in full to the prosperity of our City and County


    » To host tea/coffee mornings to promote community cohesion by enabling Irish elderly to integrate with the wider community
    » Supporting people to gain new skills enabling them to enter employment via training and education courses delivered at local community centres

    Aim 5

    To promote and develop links with the host community and other minority groups


    » To produce family fun days throughout the year and workshops in community centres and libraries.
    » To actively attend events produced by other communities, co-ordinating transport for the Irish elderly, young people, travellers and gypsies
