Solar Energy for all

Unlike developed countries, electricity is a scarcity in Tamil Nadu. As a result, schools have power cuts every day which disrupts their education. The Big Idea is to install solar power into Nirvana School in Pondicherry to avoid daily constant power cuts.

Estimated between 2-3 months

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Understand the Power needs for the school

    Activities

» Review of the appliances used at the school and the annual power requirements to obtain a suitable quote for Solar panels

Obtaining a full list of appliances along with the kilo watts used per appliance

    Aim 2

Achieve constant Power Supply to the School

    Activities

» Installing a large enough inverter and solar panels to supply electricity to both the primary school and high school

Successful completion of the solar power project and uninterrupted power supply to the school.

  • Impact

    Impact

If the power demands change over time we will need to address these by ensuring the school has capacity to upgrade and install additional inverters/solar panels.

    Risk

If the power demands of the school are currently too high that solar energy cannot be used then alternative methods will need to be considered. For example, partial solar power or addressing ways in which power demands can be reduced around the school (i.e. fitting LED lights instead of normal lights)

    Reporting

We will be able to send all invoices to donors as well as pictures of the solar panels being installed at the school and the final product.
