TryAthlete Challenge

People with neurological disorders like Parkinson's, Motor Neuron's, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, brain tumours etc, can benefit greatly from exercise. Our TryAthletes are people who get involved in challenges and 'try' to be athletes in any way they can, eg walking, running, cycling, climbing, rowing

  • Need

People who suffer from neurological disorders do not get the encouragement they should to go out and live their lives as normally as possible. We feel that by raising money through the TryAthlete brand, we can give more sufferers the access to this encouragement and hope, which in turn would ease their symptoms and lift their spirits.
At Funding Neuro everything we do encourages people to have fun, smile, enjoy themselves and to be positive...TryAthletes emanate this ethos in all that they do.

We will engage with more people, raise awareness about what we do, the research we fund, and the help that is available to sufferers and their families.
Our recent charity walk had 3 people with Parkinson's taking part, and they benefited greatly from this activity which provided them with much needed food for the soul and interaction with others-a break from the norm. Taking part in one challenge, whatever from that takes, can change a person's outlook on life, and help them to have hope!

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To have 1,000 people running (walking, cycling, etc) in TryAthletes tops by 2014.

» Open a Try Cafe Include running classes, cycle education/workshop, walking groups & nutritional advice - people who want to raise money for us too

    What success will look like

We will organise an event in which all TryAthletes will take part, to show we have at least 1,000!

    Aim 2

Raise awareness of young onset Parkinson's to as wide an audience as possible, to encourage support

» Through our website and events. Increased promotional activity through newsletter Grow the database through networking

    What success will look like

If more people know, more people will be encouraged to show their support, and help to us raise the funds to complete the research. If we raise the money, we have succeeded.

  • Impact

More people with neurological disorders taking part in more physical challenges, will mean better quality of life for these individuals and their families, and the more money raised through TryAthletes the closer we are to eradicating neurological disorders.
We hope that everyone will know about what we do, and that they will be inspired to do something amazing too.
We will promote all activity on our website, and we will engage with the press to showcase our supporters if they are willing

The risks are not enough people getting involved! This can only be dealt with as we progress.

Via email, letter, facebook, and website updates, depending on the particular donor.

  • Background

We are based in Glasgow, but have supporters all over the UK.
Our TryAthletes take part in activities all over the world...Mount Kilimanjaro, Iron Man in Switzerland etc.

Our supporters, who, first and foremost got involved through Bryn, who founded the charity and suffers from Parkinson's. The people who will see results of the trials through the efforts they have put in. The families of people suffering from neurological disorders, who will know their loved one is living their life to the fullest, with hope that this disease will be eradicated.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Bryn set up Funding Neuro to fund research into curing neurological disorders. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's aged 36 and decided he was not going to just lie down and accept it.
We have fantastic supporters, who get out there and spread the word and encourage others to do so, and as we already have the TryAthletes on board, and the Cycle Cafe on it's way, we couldn't be in a better position to carry this out!
