  • Need

    Need

Archiving what has been a unique theatrical project in a way that will be completely accessible to all its participants.

    Solution

Modern technology will allow us to compile a complete record in the form of an online website, an ebook and a hard copy book of twenty years of Maverick Theatre activity.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To compline an accurate, informative and hopefully inspirational record of Mavericks work and ethic.

    Activities

» Extensive on and off line marketing appealing for recollections, articles and impressions, mainly in Birmingham and the Midlands
    » Compilation of the material
» Setting, design and publishing of the material and website, on line and in hard form.

By presenting a book that includes contributions from a wide range of people touched by Maverick over the years.

    Aim 2

To enable a sense of pride in the region and the work of a small, inclusive, 'fringe' company.

    Activities

» National press and pr campaign for the finished book, website and ebook.

There will be an official launch in Birmingham involving all the contributors and utilising some high profile VIP's.

  • Impact

    Impact

We hope it will prove that individual endeavour and creative success is not just the realm of well funded national companies. We also want to inspire Midlands based artists. Success will be a validation of the region and book sales.

    Risk

There could be a risk that the physical books may not be of a sufficient quality. We shall deal with this by insisting on galley proofs.

    Reporting

Donors will be invited to the launch party and sent a signed copy of the finished product. They can also be added to our mailing list if they wish.

  • Background

    Location

Communities where Maverick operated - Europe, the USA and the UK, but mainly the Midlands.

    Beneficiaries

Students of performing arts. But hopefully the poorer communities in Birmingham. 67% of our audiences at the Billesley pub had never seen a play before. When we finished in 2000, a local housewife started a petition to send to the Arts Council that attracted over 2000 physical signatures - pre Internet. We hope to thank them for their support and reward them by putting them in print. Plus other venues we visited overseas.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We are unique in terms of attracting new audiences to theatre in the areas in which we worked and this heritage archive will, we hope, celebrate our working class roots and inspire others to get involved.
