  • Need

Cheshire is an area of startling contrasts. It is one of the most affluent counties in England but we see a story of great wealth that lives next door to, sometimes extreme, poverty and deprivation. There are housing estates on the edge of wealthy villages with high levels of unemployment, low educational attainment, high crime rates, poor health and a high density of houses in poor environments. Some neighbourhoods suffer from severe economic and social deprivation.

Our grant making which supports social activity at a local level aims to:
    • Reduce inequalities in life expectancy
    • Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing
    • Improve health and social wellbeing for older people and vulnerable groups
    • Give every child the best start in life
    • Grow sustainable communities and
    • Reduce inequalities in income deprivation and employment

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To create a fund for Cheshire which will fund immediate community need and provide for the future.

» We aim to raise £750,000 before April 2014 by encouraging donations to the Cheshire Community First Fund. Each donation will be topped up by 50%.

The success of this fundraising initiative will be demonstrated by an increase in the number and value of funds established to support the communities of Cheshire.

  • Impact

Cheshire's Community First Fund is an endowment fund which means once established it's there forever. This means that not only can we fund projects that address very real community need now but we can go on doing that for ever and ever. Every £ given will be given a 50pence boost on the day it is given and the income the endowment fund generates given directly to voluntary organisations doing social activity at a grassroots level immediately and long into the future.

There is risk that we won' raise the sums of money that we hope to but we have already secured an endowment of £2m and whatever funds we raise will build on that. We are attempting to mitigate this risk through significant relationship building and donor development and by having theBigGive as one of our fundraising tools as opposed to our main fundraising tool.

Donors will receive a monthly e-newsletter and on a donor advised fund will receive their own individualised grant making report. They will receive quarterly reports on the endowment fund and income generated. We will work closely with donors of over £10k to chose grant recipients with them.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Our good giving service across Cheshire links local philanthropists to local voluntary groups and community projects. We are the only organisation that is activiely inspiring, managing and distributing donations on behalf of Cheshire philanthropists across the county via an open and transparent grant making process which addresses community issues and needs in Cheshire. The Community First Fund is part of the Foundation and is the only way the 50% additional investment can be secured.
