  • Need

The lack of opportunity for socially excluded and poorer communities to get involved in perceived ' high brow' theatre and literary projects.

It actively seeks participation in a full scale theatrical production from some of the most disadvantaged areas of Birmingham and London. We will then produce a top quality production with assistance and tutorage from some of the best theatrical practitioners in the world.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To encourage participation in a high quality theatrical production by socially excluded communities.

» Have a completely open access policy and ensure the proposition is attractive enough to encourage first-timers or those just curious about the art.

    What success will look like

There will be a major theatrical production in Birmingham at an established theatre space.

    Aim 2

To increase the creative skills of all participants.

» Workshops and masterclasses with world-class practitioners.

    What success will look like

We will book workshops with practitioners from the R.S.C., Royal National Theatre in both acting and technical skills. Each technical head will have up to 5 'apprentices'.

    Aim 3

To increase the confidence and worth of all participants and create a sense of identity.

» The whole gamut of producing a theatrical piece will be addressed for those more interested in technical matters and there will be a major performance

    What success will look like

The plays will be pro-am performances and expectations will be high. The final shows will be high profile events.

  • Impact

It will introduce a new strand of performance to Birmingham and hopefully become an annual event. We expect to introduce new writing too.

Having already presented a very successful People's Collective performance of Shakespeare's Henry V at Birmingham Library Theatre a few years ago, we are fairly confident of managing the project. The only real risk to the project is a lack of funds!

Donors will be invited to a first night party and be added to the Maverick Theatre Newsletter if they wish.

    Why Us?

Since 1994 we have been creating new and critically acclaimed opportunities for non-theatre attenders to get involved with performances in non-theatre spaces.
