Project information

pnd support in the community

The big idea of our project is to visit mums suffering from Post natal depression (PND) in their own home and provide them with a one hour listening support session. All staff and volunteers at mothers for mothers have suffered from PND and recovered, and are trained in listening skills.

  • Need

    Need

The project aims to counteract the social isolation and lack of support many mums with PND suffer from, by visiting mums in their own home. We hope that through the home visiting service mums will feel more able to access one of our two support groups, thereby further helping to counteract their isolation and help them to develop social networks of support.

    Solution

This project will solve the problem by reaching those vulnerable mums who are unable to access our other support services, helping them to recover from their troubling illness much sooner, thereby securing better outcomes for themselves and their families. As these women recover enough to access our other services they will be offered access to counselling and support groups.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To reach those mums who are suffering from severe PND and unable to access other support.

    Activities

» A block of six listening home visits

Through the use of before and after mood questionaires, and we plam that a minimum of 60% of those offered the home visits will move onto other support services we offer.

  • Impact

    Impact

The long term changes we will bring about will be marked by several different indicators, demonstrated through the use of evaluation questionaires asking about things such as improved psychological well being, greater self esteem, a reduction in the troubling symptoms of PNI, an increase in social support networks and improved relationships with their children and partners

    Risk

We will be visiting the mums in pairs (a staff member and volunteer) to ensure our safety.

    Reporting

We will report to donors via their preferred method of communication, we would suggest via e mail, monthly
