  • Need

    Need

Bath is renowned as a World Heritage Site and as an all year round City of Festivals. For over 60 years there has been a festival of music celebrating the works of JS Bach in the City. However without the intervention of the Bath Mozartfest in 2011, the Festival would have closed. This would have deprived the City of one of its major classical music festivals and UK music lovers of hearing top international artists performing live outside the capital.

    Solution

The Bath Bachfest will stage five concerts over three consecutive days and engage the very top interpreters of Baroque music. It will be promoted to all classical music lovers and especially encourage the local community, amateur arts organisations and younger generations to attend such high quality events, so encouraging a new generation of classical music lovers and continuing the long established history of culture and music in Bath.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To promote the highest quality Baroque music with live performances by top international artists.

    Activities

» The Bath Bachfest will feature five choral, chamber and orchestral events over three consecutive days with performances by top international musicians
» The festival will be widely promoted at a local/ national/international level through the media and internet.
» The festival brochure will be mailed to music lovers with special offers available to local residents, amateur arts organisations, students and youth.

Success will be achieved by averaging 90% attendance over the festival period with 50% living in the local community and encouraging participation from local arts organisations.

  • Impact

    Impact

The festival will reverse the decline of high quality live perfomance in the provinces and encourage music lovers of all ages to attend.
Success will be monitored by achieving budgeted ticket sales and qualitative audience feedback will provide insight into future programmes. The festival will work closely with local Council and local arts organisations, universities and schools to ensure it involves and benefits the local community .

    Risk

There is a risk that one or more of the artists could pull out of the festival. However as our Artistic Director enjoys close links with a large number of top perfomers and their agents, we would always try to provide a suitable replacement and an alternative programme which would complement other events in the festival.

    Reporting

Funders of this project would receive regular email communication with an update on ticket sales and any necessary changes that have been made to project plans. They would also be invited to concerts and social events to gain first-hand experience of the festival.
