Health & Wellbeing Sheffield through Chinese Dance
To increase participation of people from disadvantaged areas of Sheffield, so as many as possible benefit from low cost, high quality Chinese movement and dance classes, for health, well being, learning and skills development. Please donate, so we can reduce the cost of our classes to participants.
This is an ongoing annual project.
Charity information: Sheffield Lishi Arts
The Active People Survey shows that many local people do not achieve recommended levels of physical activity. Combined with not eating correctly, this results in increased obesity and associated health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, which is increasing in the UK (Diabetes UK). Lishi fills a distinct gap in provision for young people and adults in Sheffield looking for an alternative to mainstream and conventional services.
This project aims to develop, promote and deliver more accessible classes for local people in the community. Sheffield Lishi Arts engages with local authorities, community groups and local health agencies to ensure the group's activities are compatible with other local strategies and joined-up community thinking. Lishi movement and dance from China provides an alternate approach to the usual mainstream services.
To get more people from Sheffield engaged in and participating in Lishi on a regular basis.
Activities» New classes, better promotion, qualified teachers and an excellent, professional experience for new beginners and experienced Lishi students.
Full local classes with regular weekly participation.
External evaluation demonstrates that participation in our classes leads to a range of learning and personal outcomes. We often use questionnaires (Survey Monkey) and feedback on social media sites (Facebook) to evaluate the long-term impact. Improved creativity, ability to self assess circumstances, improved relationships, enjoyment of learning all have a positive impact on the participants’ friends and family, too. Lishi also has a direct impact on 'behaviour' and well being.
The most important risks relate to the health and safety of people accessing our services. Our Child Protection Policy and Procedures follow those from our National Governing Body (EMDP) with Enhanced CRB checks, risk assessments etc in place.
Donors who wish to be contacted will receive a copy of our Trustees Annual Report. We will gladly provide updates on any specific project they have donated to through newsletters, our website and social media sites and by personal correspondence if required. We will demonstrate value for money.

Young people and adults, many from disadvantaged backgrounds living in Sheffield. Our focus is on young adults 16 - 24 and adults up to age 55. We would expect many of these to be not currently in employment, education or training and to include ex-offenders.
Sheffield Lishi Arts has been running health and education related Lishi projects for young people and adults since 2006 with funding from Awards for All and other bodies. The Lishi teachers are very experienced and professionally qualified.
