  • Need

    Need

The Active People Survey shows that many local people do not achieve recommended levels of physical activity. Combined with not eating correctly, this results in increased obesity and associated health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, which is increasing in the UK (Diabetes UK). There are many young adults in Otley, but not many health/well being related activities on offer, so Lishi fills a distinct gap in provision.

    Solution

This project aims to develop, promote and deliver more accessible classes for local people in the community. Otley Lishi Arts engages with local authorities, community groups and local health agencies to ensure the group's activities are compatible with other local strategies and joined-up community thinking. Lishi movement and dance from China provides an alternate approach to the usual mainstream services.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To get more people from Otley and surrounding neighbourhoods engaged in and participating in Lishi.

    Activities

» New classes, better promotion, qualified teachers and an excellent, professional experience for new beginners and experienced Lishi students.

Full local classes with regular weekly participation

  • Impact

    Impact

External evaluation demonstrates that participation in our classes leads to a range of learning and personal outcomes. We often use questionnaires (Survey Monkey) and feedback on social media sites (Facebook) to evaluate the long-term impact. Improved creativity, ability to self assess circumstances, improved relationships, enjoyment of learning all have a positive impact on the participants’ friends and family, too. Lishi also has a direct impact on 'behaviour' and well being.

    Risk

The most important risks relate to the health and safety of people accessing our services. Our Child Protection Policy and Procedures follow those from our National Governing Body (EMDP) with Enhanced CRB checks, risk assessments etc in place.

    Reporting

Donors who wish to be contacted will receive a copy of our Trustees Annual Report. We will gladly provide updates on any specific project they have donated to through newsletters, our website and social media sites and by personal correspondence if required. We will demonstrate value for money.
