  • Need

Our research indicates that a significant proportion of children that attend our school in Burkina Faso either drop out early or achieve lower grades due to competeng needs of hunger. The children have to feed themselves as a priority and the hunger means they cannot concentrate or learn when they are at school. We want to help these children to get an education to help pull themselves out of poverty and we want to remove any barriers that exist to prevent them learning.

Burkina Faso is currently suffering from a severe famine and rising food prices. The Food Program will ensure children will receive a nutritious meal each day. This will also improve learning ability, increase motivation and encourage parents to send their children to school – especially in the case of girls.By taking away this barrier to education, the children can focus on learning and creating a future free of hunger and poverty.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide a nutritious meal for the most needy children.

» We will develop a food program that will provide a meal each day.

    What success will look like

We will monitor the number of children recieving these meals and track their attendance and performance at school.

  • Impact

The food program will mean that less children will live in poverty and will focus on their education. This will impact not only the child but their family as they will have greater opportunities to find work and support the wider community.

Rising food prices: we are looking to develop a food growing enterprise on site and on nearby land to give sustainability to the project and mitigate the risk of high food prices.
