  • Need

It can be difficult for a visually impaired person to follow a theatre performance without knowing the stage and set layout and without a description of what is happening on stage when there is no spoken word.
HFC is providing touch tours and audio description of our shows for visually impaired people.

By providing touch tours and audio description for shows at Hall for Cornwall we will make the performing arts accessible and we hope to increase the numbers of visually impaired people visiting the theatre.

Hall for Cornwall is a flourishing theatre at the heart of Cornwall. We aim to engage and inspire our audiences through provision of first class performance art. By creating a programme of work to a high standard we appeal to audiences from all backgrounds.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To organise touch tours and audio described performances at Hall for Cornwall's 2014 shows.

» To secure funding to pay for touch tours and audio described performances for the visually impaired at the Hall for Cornwall during 2014.

    What success will look like

Success will be receiving increased numbers of visually impaired guests to our shows during 2014.

  • Impact

This project will improve accessibility of the performing arts in Cornwall for visually impaired people in the county.

It will increase numbers of disadvantaged people, from what is one of the poorest regions in Europe, visiting Cornwall's main theatre and enjoying the performing arts.

Theatre going as a cultural and educational experience is enriching and helps build confidence and improves communication and learning skills.

This project has minimal risks. In the event of an audio describer not being able to attend, a replacement would be organised. The theatre ensures that there are always the required number of staff members available for touch tours and we adhere to all health and safety requirements.

In June 2014, funders of the project will receive an email report detailing the total of money raised for the project, the touch tours and audio described shows booked for 2014 and including photographs and information on performances.
