The Bridge For Heroes
Through face to face supportive interaction the charity aims to identify the early signs of PTSD in serving personnel and veterans of the Armed Forces. Due to a high number of reported suicides within the Armed Forces the charity decided to focus on helping suuferers of PTSD. We are also trying to tackle to divide between the Military population and the civilian community.
All our staff and volunteers are trained in the early identification of PTSD. We hold group and one to one therapy sessions for member of the Armed Forces, former members and their families. We encourage volunteering within the local comunity and as the Contact centre also includes a charity shop and a Museum, we encouarage walk ins to engage with our beneficiaries and school trips to educate local children on the Military.
Direct, immediate support, free of charge, to former, serving and families of the Armed Forces.
Activities» Group therapy Sessions, including model making and cross-stitching. Where discussion of experiences is encouraged.
» One to one support sessions where needed, in a quiet area of the contact Centre with a trained member of staff.
» Where applicable, offer advice and aid with any transition to Civilian life or attaining Service Records, Medals, compensation claims etc.
Support sessions are tracked by our Contact centre manager to enable us to create statistics on attendance and beneficiaries recieving the help they need.
This Centre enables those that feel unable to cope alone share their experiences, get advice and if needed their PTSD diagnosed. In short, preventing veterans from taking their own lives due to struggles that otherwise wold go unnoticed. The demonstration of success, is lives still beng lived.
The one risk of this project is the sustainablity of the Contact Centre itself, this risk has the solution that the Manager is funded by the MOD and the Charity has a Reserves Policy to keep monies for the running of the Centre for up to three months. Which gives us sufficent time to raise funds.
We report to donors in publications such as the monthly Newsletter, Trustees are informed at quarterly meetings and where applicable larger donors recieve recognition in the form of publicity and consequently we aid promoting their cause or business.
