DEC member agencies have been working in conflict zones for decades. We undertake careful security assessments, constantly monitor risks and seek the acceptance of the communities we try to help. We work with carefully vetted and monitored local partners.
The DEC will ensure the highest possible level of transparency consistent with the need to ensure operations are able to continue and the lives of staff and partners are protected.

Inside Syria and the surrounding countries, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey but some refugees have also fled to Iraq and Egypt.
The People of Syria affected by the crisis
The DEC is an umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies. At times of overseas emergency, the DEC brings together a unique alliance of the UK's aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective relief.
