All4Burma Eden Village project
To support a marginalised village inside Karen State Burma to develop long term sustainable animal, crop and fish farms to support the community as they try to rebuild their lives. This village is very close to the Burma Army roads and are both very vulnerable and facing severe food shortages.
April 2013 - March 2014
After over 60 years of conflict the people in Karen State no longer have the skills or knowledge to develop long term sustainable farming to provide for their communities. In the past the villagers have only done subsistence rice farming with no nutrition such as vegetables and animals in their diet to survive healthily and be able to develop their village community. To rebuild their villages and develop healthy communities they first need to be able to feed the people.
By teaching the people how to farm effectively, even though they live deep in the jungle, they will be able to provide for themselves over the long term. This will allow the village to start to concentrate on other necessities such as education and health provision and enable the communities to develop their unique culture. In doing so we hope to combat malnutrition and reduce unneccesary deaths, as well as raising the self-esteem and self-reliance of the participants.
To raise £10000 to train workers and provide resources for the initial farms.
Activities» Sponsored cyclist in the RideLondon-Surrey event
Success will be the establishment of animals, crop and fish farms in the village and well trained locals who can continue and train on other farmers.
The establishment of a well fed village, which can then concentrate on developing education, health and community structures. In five years we would hope to see the village with a school, trained teachers, a church and visiting health clinic sessions or trained nurses within the community.
The project is underwritten by the delivering agency Partners Relief and Development
We will send out regular e-mail (and printed where necessary) updates and will keep the website updated with photographs and anecdotal stories.

The project is located in KlerLweeHtoo district Karen State Eastern Burma (Myanmar). The villagers in KlerLweeHtoo district have been displaced many times, facing landmines, enforced portering, seeing family and friends killed and having their villages burned down. This area has no state provision for food, education, health or housing.
The villagers in this area who are trying to rebuild their lives. Poverty here is extreme because of the long conflict and people have no access to healthy food. One in five children die before their fifth birthday. After over 60 years of conflict the people in Karen State no longer have the skills or knowledge to develop long term sustainable farming to provide for their communities without support.
We are working to fund this project which will be delivered by with Partners Relief and Development. PRAD have worked for over 20 years with the people of Karen State and have already started to train workers and build the necessary relationships inside Karen state to be able to assist in the building of sustainable communities. All4Burma's trustees have worked with the PRAD staff for many years and most have visited the refugees a number of times.
