Babies with cerebral palsy, invest in their future

Our groundbreaking infant and parent service address the needs of children, age 0-4 yrs. old with motor disorders like cerebral palsy (CP). Offering early therapeutic interventions, we help children reach their full potential and become as strong, mobile and independent as possible.

  • Need


    Around 1,800 children are diagnosed with CP in the UK each year and almost 50% are born prematurely. Following weeks or months, in neonatal intensive care, the families are discharged with little support, left waiting for signs of developmental delay. Waiting means these babies are denied the chance to develop the foundation skills that will maximise independence. The very real risk is that without specialist, intensive intervention these children will be totally excluded from their community.


    Our specialist staff offer a robust and integrated approach to therapy and parental support. As experts in child development, we offer a hands-on practical approach that provides critical early intervention for children with CP at an age when the brain is still developing and “neuro-plasticity” (the ability of neural pathways to adapt and change) is at its greatest -improving motor function, communication and life potential for these exceptional children.

    Prompt diagnosis and immediate, specialist therapeutic input

    » Continue to develop relationships with medical professionals from neonatal departments so that they will refer families to Pace

    Achieving meaningful improvements in motor function and life potential, such as looking, listening, vocalising, moving and using hands to explore and learn

    Promote and aid independence in later life


    » Develop motor functions through occupational and physiotherapy, conductive education input to children throughout the time at Pace

    Children with motor disorders will develop vital self-care skills appropriate to their age and ability

    Aim 3

    Children will have the skills to participate in their education at a suitable curriculum level


    » Offer Occupational, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language therapy to develop skills, confidence, abilities and knowledge through play

    What success will look like

    Children will develop the critical foundation motor skills necessary to access learning in the future, whether in a Pace setting, another special or mainstream school

    Aim 4

    Families can access services that provide vital advice, training and emotional support when needed


    » Parents are involved in every session our specialists provide practical and expert advice for support ongoing care at home
    » Training is provided to support specific needs; specifically developing a safe swallow for eating and drinking, or managing tube feeding.
    » Parent support groups and coffee mornings provide a “safe space” to share experiences and access specialist external information

    Parents feel supported, educated, empowered and competent to care for their child with confidence

    Provide documented baselines and outcomes to support their Education Health and Care Plans

    Successful EHCP applications where the parents’ wishes are met. Including school choice, therapeutic and support services

  • Impact


    The outcomes for children will vary, depending on each child’s ability. Our aim is to develop the children’s skills to be as independent as they can; reducing their level of dependency on care provision as they reach their adult years, improving confidence, self-esteem and mental health; empowering them to be an active participating in their family, their school and their wider community.


    Children are not referred to Pace by health care professionals; working with medical professionals to ensure our services are sign posted.

    Families don’t know that services like Pace exists; Implementing a sustainable marketing plan to promote the services

    Families presume that they will not be able to afford private therapeutic services; Communications to promote the service and address assumptions and barriers; Raise vital funds so services offered are ideally free or heavily subsidised.


    We will share updates through case studies, images and videos of milestones and key successes through bi monthly e-newsletters and the termly printed newsletters.

    We are based in Aylesbury, but support children and their families from across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Greater London.


    Ten babies/infants who have had a difficult start to life and their families will receive assessments
    and reports.

    20 of our youngest children and their family will have access to 5-6 sessions. Benefiting from therapy, advice and support from the earliest possible moment.

    Pace are a recognised national leader with 25 years’ experience of working with children who have motor disorders. We offer a unique blend of therapy, education and support through a team of highly skilled physios, teachers, occupational and speech and language therapist. We help around 250 children a year, with approximately 50 children accessing early intervention services each year. We pride ourselves in putting the child’s needs at the very heart of what we do.

    Laurel and Ali: Speech and Language Therapists offering Sequential Oral Sensory feeding, PROMPT, Augmentative Alternative Communication


    Sonia is Physiotherapist who is trained in both Bobath, Hydrotherapy. She has over 8 years experience in neuro paediatrics.


    Szilvia is a Conductive Educator and trainer, offering families support in practical play based input and safe manual handling of children with CP.
