40 Summer Workshops for Children

The workshops will be offered free to children aged 5-13 in the Bristol area.They will allow children to experience & explore new activities, materials & resources; gain an understanding of different cultures & arts; educate them in environmental play & recycling; & support their overall development

    - improving the skills of childcare staff and volunteers
    -improving the sustainability of childcare groups

    Solution

    Develop the skills of 120 staff & 40 volunteers with new ideas & activities to use in their settings. Improve the overall activities offered at afterschool clubs in Bristol
    Allow 800 children to experience and explore new activities, materials & resources & gain an understanding of different cultures
    Support the social, physical & cultural development of children in a fun & inspiring way
    Support groups with 'goodie bags' of materials & resources to help them further develop activities

    Aim 1

    develop the skills of 120 staff & 40 volunteers with new ideas & activities to use in their settings

    Activities

    » Run 40 workshops reaching out to 800 children, 120 staff members and 40 volunteers.
    » Each setting will receive a 'goodie bag' of materials & resources to help staff & volunteers develop the ideas further with children

    Success will be...achieved by running 40 workshops and getting the attendance figures suggested above

    » Workshops include: dance, drama, green arts, circus skills, music, Tshirt printing, Batik art, bunting& banner,illustration, woodwork, story telling

    Success will be...achieved by running 40 workshops and ensuring between 20-30 children attend each one

    support the social, physical & cultural development of children in a fun & inspiring way

    » Workshops include: dance, drama, green arts, circus skills, music, Tshirt printing, Batik art, bunting& banner,illustration, woodwork, story telling

    Success will be...achieved through running a diverse range of workshops from circus skills to music and batik art


    Aim 4

    Improve childcare staff and volunteers skill area and improve the activities on offer at clubs.

    » support groups with 'goodie bags' of materials & resources to help them further develop activities in the future

    Success will be...achieved by the distribution of goodie bags to help clubs expand on these themes when they return to their clubs

    Impact

    - children are better educated and have experienced a diverse range of activities
    - clubs offer better activities and improve their sustainability
    - staff and volunteers have improved their skill area

    Risk

    weather - many of these activities need to be run outdoors - if bad weather deters from this then the workshops will be rescheduled

    Reporting

    BAND closely monitors all workshops participants and this feedback is then evaluated closely and can be fed back to funders who are interested
