Christmas Day for otherwise alone older people

Jacksons Lane throws open its doors on Christmas Day to provide lunch with all the trimmings, gifts, and a full day of entertainment to over 150 elderly and disabled people who would otherwise be spending the day alone. We work to ensure the most vulnerable in our community have a special Christmas.

  • Need

In North London there are large numbers of older and disabled people who do not have family or friends around them at Christmas. They are, through infirmity or disability, unable to travel unaided and have the prospect of spending Christmas all alone, adding to the feelings of depression and isolation.

We will provide transport for all those unable to travel, and a team of volunteers will cook Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, gifts, and a full day of entertainment (artists and entertainers giving their time for free) to make sure at Christmas no one has to be alone.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To provide transport, lunch, gifts and entertainment for 100 older and infirm people at Christmas

» Open our doors on Christmas Day and transport, cook for and entertain 100 older people who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone

Success will be... 100 older and disabled people having a fun Christmas, enjoying a cooked meal, and enjoying the company of others at Christmas.

  • Impact

People will feel less isolated, be able to talk with peers, enjoy a hot meal and hopefully feel more able to stave off deterioration for longer.

We are unable to transport all people who would like to attend. To combat this, we are recruiting a large team of volunteers who will transport everyone.

We will create a report on the day (with photos) and post it to our website, and share photos on twitter and facebook. Anyone who would like feedback from those benefiting from the day can also have this sent to them.
