Premature Baby Unit

The neonatal department at City Hospital helps premature and sick babies. We want to buy a specialist ventilation machine for the babies that helps them breathe and reduces the risk of future lung damage and will help ensure our babies are treated as close to home as possible.

    Need

Over 6,000 babies are born at City Hospital every year and approximately 10% of them will require neonatal care. Our hospital operates in an area of high deprivation making it fundamental that babies get the best possible start in life.

    Solution

We will purchase a specialist high frequency ventilation system that provides infants who struggle to breathe outside the womb with breathing support. The machine is the gold standard in breathing apparatus for babies and provides an alternative method of inflating the lungs compared to traditional ventilation systems. This reduces the risk of chronic breathing problems and lung damage in the future. It also avoids the need for referral to another hospital ensuring care is provided close to home
