AccessArt Resource Creation

AccessArt believes that through identifying and sharing of best educational practice in the visual arts we can work together to raise standard in art education, provide more opportunities for everyone, and ensure children, young people and adults achieve their creative potential.

  • Need

It's a tricky time for art education. As a society we are training less teachers to specialise in art, and there is less time in the school day for children and young people to meet their creative potential. At the very time when we need to invest more resources to ensure we continue to build our creative economies, we seem to be applying the brakes. We need to ensure we help build a climate in which creativity can flourish, for the benefit of all our futures.

We believe that AccessArt has a unique part to play in helping to support teachers, learners & creative practitioners. AccessArt advocates sharing of high quality visual arts practice. By sharing skills, knowledge, experience and outcomes we can all work together to help raise aspirations and standards in visual arts teaching & learning. AccessArt aims to be as accessible as possible, and to connect and bridge practitioners, facilitators, teachers and learners at every level.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To continue to inspire and enable high quality visual arts teaching, learning and practice.

» To develop new relationships with teachers, artists and facilitators.
» To highlight and share best practice representative of schools, artists, community groups and cultural organisations via www.accessart.org.uk

    What success will look like

Success will be... the creation of over 10 new resources.

    Aim 2

To raise the profile and status of art education.

» Through highlighting best practice and demonstrating benefits of outcome.
» By acting as advocate and champion of visual arts teaching, learning and practice via the activities offered through the AccessArt website.

    What success will look like

Success will be... more people involved in the visual arts - in teaching, learning and practise, and the visual arts seen as an aspirational exciting opportunity for all.

    Aim 3

To support individual teachers, facilitators and artists in their nurturing of others.

» Help signpost and guide, and provide CPD via accessible inspirational ways.

    What success will look like

Success will be... Seeing teachers and artists feel fulfilled not frustrated in their vocation to inspire and enable others.

  • Impact

We aim to raise the profile of the visual arts so that art education is not seen as a luxury which is squeezed in if there's time. Instead we aim to help create a climate in which the visual arts are valued as a tool which can bring about great benefits on an individual, social and economic level.

Risks for this project are low. AccessArt is a tried and tested resource, formed in 1999 and registered as a charity in 2004. In 2012 Olswang kindly took AccessArt as a pro bono client ensuring the organisation is legally secure and our working relationships sound. Risks relating to permission for image publication, copyright etc have been covered by this agreement.

Donors supporting AccessArt through a donation of over £42 will become AccessArt members, enabling them to access all our resources and be kept up to date with all our news and opportunities. Donors making a contribution of less than £42 will be kept up to date via email newsletters.

  • Background

The project connects users across the UK (and overseas), and shares excellent practice via the website www.accessart.org.uk

AccessArt connects over 10,000 registered users and over 600 members across the UK and overseas (made up of teachers, artists, facilitators and home users). The AccessArt website has become a well-respected source of inspiration and communication – in the last year alone over 50,000 people used the AccessArt website to find inspiration – we can only imagine the total number of people who benefited from AccessArt when our audience of 50,000 spread our resources to their own audiences…
