1000 hours campaign, aiming to raise 1000 hours worth of sports coaching for 4980 disabled children & young people in Rotherham and Sheffield.
This is a challenging target in itself, £40,000 is what we need to raise, however this breaks down to just £8 per child.
October 2012 - September 2013

This project is really at the heart of our aims and objectives, looking to educate and inspire young disabled people to achieve more. Did you know that young disabled people are half as likely to take part in a sport or activities on a regular basis than non-disabled of the same age? Young disabled people have issues of access to deal with alongside stigmas and stereotypes and popular misconceptions of what they can achieve. Sometimes it is simply easier to believe them than fight for dreams.
The programmes we deliver are designed to encourage young people to reach beyond their comfort zones and challenge the stigmas, stereotypes and misconceptions regarding disability.
We engage disabled children in out of school activities using the disciplines of sport and activity. The focus being on not just developing the technical skills of a particular sport, but encouraging the associated skills of cooperation, confidence, coordination and independence.
To raise 1000 hours worth of sports coaching for 4980 disabled children
Activities» Sports coaching:- 166 programmes delivered to a total of 4980 children within the year
Success will be... hitting or exceeding our target.
The project will inspire disabled and non-disabled children to break through the misconceptions, stigmas and stereotypes associated with disability; to see that disability does not define your limits, but hard work and attitude does.
Success will be more disabled young people becoming involved in active lifestyles and sport out of school. Alongside this, non-disabled young people holding less misconceptions and seeing beyond appearances.
there is a risk that local sports associations will be reluctant to take a disabled young person into certain activities. We are mitigating this risk by involving local clubs as much as possible, educating the clubs on ability and disability; ensuring that the misconceptions are broken down and looking at starting specialist classes with their help where need arises.
Funders of this project will receive a monthly email report on the project detailing the current performance against target, ongoing and forthcoming activities and any changes required to project plans.
