  • Need

The UK is consistently and significantly outperformed by other EU countries in language proficiency. In a recent study by the European Commission, only 9% of 14-15 year-old school pupils in England can use their first foreign language independently, compared with a European average of 42% (Special Eurobarometer 386: Europeans and Their Languages, June 2012). Yet in the same survey, 98% of Europeans believe that mastering other foreign languages is useful for the future of their children.

Théâtre Sans Frontières are raising money to continue their varied and engaging Education and Participation programme. This includes touring professional theatre shows to schools, providing educational materials and workshops, touring family friendly foreign langauge productions to UK venues and through our on-line e-learning platform (launching 2013).

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To encourage and inspire language learning in young people

» Through our creative learning and schools' programme

    What success will look like

Knowing that young people who participate in our projects are inspired by and gain confidence in language.

    Aim 2

To create professional, vibrant and engaging theatre for young people and their families

» Through our creative learning and schools' programme

    What success will look like

Our audiences are captivated and engaged throughout our performances.

  • Impact

Greater proficiency in languages and a genuine love of learning not just the languages themselves but about the culture and spirit of their associated countries.

The risk is that we won't achieve our full target to be able to realise all of our ambitious aims. However, we are constantly looking at new revenue streams and opportunities for funding. We are fortunate enough to receive core funding support from Arts Council England which means all of our projects can go ahead but with your support they will be more ambitious and reach more young people.

If donors supply an email address they will be added to mailing list to receive updates and progress on our projects. Any Trusts or foundations who support the programme will receive a full project report if required.
