Project information

To raise money and awareness for research into DMD we're taking an all-star team of rugby legends to take part in the United Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens Competition in November 2013.
The sponsorship and funds raised from this trip will go towards life saving research.

Our charity will raise money until a cure for DMD is found, this particular fundraising project takes place in November 2013.

  • Need

There is currently no treatment for people born with DMD.
There is no funding to find a cure.
We want to solve this problem.

Ex-Rugby player Andy Johnson and his wife, Alex, set up the charity when their son, Jack, was diagnosed with DMD.

Joiningjack aims to inspire people to raise money so that life saving research can be done to find a treatment for DMD.

Sports and celebrity connections have helped raise the profile of the charity and we're working with medical professionals to decide where best to invest money raised.

Joiningjack is committed to making a difference to the lives of people living with DMD

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Funding a rugby legends tour to Dubai to take part in the United Emirates Rugby Sevens 2013.

» Joiningjack took part in the Dubai Sevens 2012 and the trip was a tremendous success. We want to return this year and raise more money and awareness.

    What success will look like

Success will be measured by the amount of sponsorship we can raise to support the team. Companies can sponsor the rugby shirt and the fundraising events associated with the trip.

  • Impact

We intend continuing campaigning until the very best treatment is available for those living with DMD.
By running a high profile rugby trip we are able to attract media attention and engage public interaction with the charity.
Supporters can purchase associated Joiningjack merchandise and are often be inspired to raise money through their own events after watching their rugby heroes play for us. Our celebrity supporters, like Sir Bradley Wiggins, increase public awareness of our cause.

We are a relatively small organisation but we have great connections.
Joiningjack try to use these contacts to the very best of our ability.
So far we have been successful in gathering support and we are working as hard as we can to maintain the momentum. With proper planning and by running high profile events that utilize our sports and celebrity supporters we believe we can raise a great deal of public awareness, engage grassroots support, eg in schools, and fund a lot of research into DMD.

We've a fantastic website www.joiningjack.org which keeps our supporters up to date with developments. A great way we engage directly is through social media networks like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. Our team are all graduates with business experience and a whole lot of drive and determination.

  • Background

Joiningjack are a charity based in Wigan although we have many grassroots supporters across the UK now.
We have a strong association with the Rugby League community, especially Wigan Warriors, our founder, Andy Johnson, is an ex rugby league player for this club. In 2012 we took a team of rugby legends to play in the Dubai Sevens, including Jason Robinson and Martin Offiah. Sir Bradley Wiggins joined us on the trip as our waterboy. We're returning in 2013 and want to make the trip even bigger.

DMD is a muscle wasting condition affecting 1 in 3,500. A cruel and slow decline becomes apparent once an individual with DMD has developed into a toddler. They lose the ability to walk, are wheelchair bound before adolescence and require assistance with all aspects of their care as they become paraplegic. People with DMD do not live beyond their twenties and often die in their early teens. Very expensive care plans drain resources and we want to eradicate this condition. We want to find a cure.
