Project information
Elderly Tenants
We want to provide more support for older private tenants and to increase their active engagement in our work through a new Pensioner Renters project. We wish to employ a designated worker to provide direct support to older people.

Need
Need
Older private tenants live in the worst housing conditions, often enduring cold, damp, un-modernised homes and suffering fuel poverty and landlord neglect. Despite this, private tenants are rarely seen as a ‘worthy cause’ for charitable giving and do not evoke a ‘feel-good’ factor among potential donors
Solution
The project will result in an improved quality of life for older private tenants and the alleviation of poverty, isolation and stress.
Older private tenants will benefit from more, and more comprehensive, advice and support.
Older private tenants will be able to make more informed choices about their future.

Background
Location
Our catchment area will cover West London
Beneficiaries
We want to provide activities for older tenants to overcome their isolation. West London is a very different and more diverse community than when most of our older tenants moved in many decades ago, and to them it can appear threatening. We want the capacity to encourage more of them to join in our campaigning work which brings together tenants of every age and ethnic group.

Why Us?
Why Us?
Our long experience and grasp of Rent Act tenancies (the dominant tenancies of older tenants) is renowned and exceptional, and for this we are better equipped to provide information to older tenants as they get frailer, and to be seen as someone they can trust to help them decide what's best for them.
