  • Need

Little Rock started in single rented room with 5 now has 20 staff and over 500 pupils. Your money will go towards the cost of building a new centre. Space is at a premium for Little Rock, who are struggling to find space to provide education to all 500 pupils - so a new centre is essential to be able to support more children throughout Kibera.

The organisation is growing fast and reaching more and more children, and supporting the parents to gain a sustainable income, as well as trying innovative ideas - such as substituting a water donation for school fees, or providing parents a space to do their washing. A new centre will carry on this great work.

It will also provide, safe and positive space for young disabled children - creating a great environment for them to learn and develop with the support of Little Rock's expert staff.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To help fund the build of the new centre - a centre of excellence for disabled children in Kibera

» The building has commenced and your money will help to fund the final stages, until the works are completed in late 2012.

    What success will look like

Success will be...when Little Rock has space to provide more than 500 disabled children in Kibera with top class inclusive education in a safe and empowering environment

  • Impact

The Centre will provide inclusive education and day care to over 500 disabled children. It will also provide pre-school support through excellent Early Childhood Development programmes, income generation support to the parents of Children with Disability, a space for young parents to do weekly washing, and provide educational programmes to parents on the care and support that disabled children need. The new Centre will be a fun environment when disabled children are safe and empowered to learn.

AbleChildAfrica have been supporting Little Rock with the build for some months. As such, AbleChildAfrica has sought voluntary project management from a Kenyan based consultant to monitor the progress of the build and ensure it is on course and cost effective.

The relationship between AbleChildAfrica is long term and sustainable - with AbleChildAfrica providing ongoing technical support around disability issues, as well as vital life changing funds.

Regular updates are provided regarding the progress of the building of the Centre on the main AbleChildAfrica website and through our updates on Twitter and Facebook.
