Hounslow Expansion Project
To expand our services in Hounslow borough to support those in need of crisis pregnancy , post abortion, miscarriage and befriending support.
January 2016 - December 2016
Charity information: Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre
Abortion rates in Hounslow are 60% higher than national average (DOH 2012) and also abortion rates in the large Asian population are increasing at a higher rate than average. “Young Asian people are more likely to come and visit us having had unprotected sex, they appear to be less likely to be using ongoing contraception, and they are more likely to be referred for terminations” (Brook). After abortion some women can struggle with problems including depression, anger and suicidal thoughts.
We did a needs assessment for a pregnancy crisis centre in Hounslow and found we need a strategy of promotion and awareness of our services. We are working in partnership with 2 other pregnancy crisis centres based in areas bordering Hounslow. We will promoting our services so that those in need of crisis pregnancy and pregnancy loss support know where to find it.
Expand services into Hounslow and increase number of clients and pupils using our services
Activities» Find out about existing provision by contacting council, NHS , schools and other relevant organisations in Hounslow
» Develop relationships with relevant organisations and increase referrals from health professionals
» Provide training for relevant health professionals on the services we provide in order to increase referrals
» Promote our services to individuals by displaying our leaflets and posters in various locations in Hounslow e.g GP surgeries, schools, noticeboards
What success will look like
Success will be increasing referrals, client numbers and and new sources of funding.
Increase in number and proportion of clients from Hounslow, including referrals. Those experiencing pregnancy loss or unplanned pregnancy will receive support to help them make a decision or work through feelings, accept the past and look forward to the future. Crisis pregnancy clients able to make the best decision for them without pressure or judgement. Support for those continuing with a pregnancy in difficult circumstances. Clients with depression will see a reduction in symptoms.
We may find it difficult to develop relationships with relevant organisations but we have experience of doing this work in Richmond Borough and believe we would be able to repeat this experience in Hounslow. That we can't cope with demand for our services. We plan to train more volunteers to cope with increased demand.
As a faith based organisation it may be assumed we are pro-life and judgemental. We find face to face contact the best way to deal with this.
Donors to this project will receive an annual e mail report including details of organisations contacted, client numbers and feedback. This can be more frequent if required
