Cookery classes for disadvantaged teens
We will be running a course for disadvantaged teenagers, aged 16-19 years. Our course will cover a large range of cooking/baking lessons, starting from basics and leading up to preparing gourmet meals. We will also include sessions on health & nutrition and the rules of kitchen hygiene.
It is an ongoing project where members change after each course.
All our participants are teenagers from low income families without any work experience. They do not have the means to join work courses which will enable them to gain the vital skills required, to join the workforce in the industry which interests them. Hackney is the poorest Borough in London and it is vital that we supply today's generation of young adults with the tools and resources they require in order to be able to find a job which they enjoy.
Teen Action will be running a cookery course to reach out to these disadvantaged young adults. The course will give them vital knowledge and skills to join the workforce, as chefs, catering assistants and waitresses. In addition our course will boost their confidence in finding a job which will empower them to perform far better at job interviews. Priority will be given to young people with no means to attend such courses due to lack of funds.
Participants will leave the course with the knowledge and skills required to enter the workforce.
Activities» During the course the participants will learn how to prepare a range of foods from simple biscuits to gourmet meals.
» They will learn related issues such as kitchen hygiene, how to serve food at restaurants and knowledge of healthy eating and nutrition information.
