New CAP Debt Centres
To offer hope for the future and a practical solution to anyone in debt by providing a free, holistic face-to-face debt advice service in unreached towns and cities across the UK. We aim to open 80 new local, church-based debt-counselling centres in 2013.
January 2013 - December 2013
Charity information: Christians Against Poverty
Many thousands of people in the UK struggle with unmanageable debt, which can cause fear, anxiety, relationship breakdown, hunger and depression. A shocking 37% of our clients considered suicide before seeking help. Last year, we received 1,425 calls from people in desperate need of our service, but who we couldn’t help because we don’t have a centre near them. All we could do was send a self-help pack – better than nothing, but not the comprehensive face-to-face debt help that they really need.
We want to offer help to more than 6,000 additional families by opening 80 new local centres across the UK in 2013. Working through local church-based centres, CAP offers a world-class debt counselling service that teaches people to live within a budget, pay off their debts and stay debt-free for the long term. Our combination of home visits, comprehensive debt management and face-to-face support and encouragement is specifically designed to help the poorest and most disadvantaged in society.
To provide debt help to 6,000 families, giving them a sustainable solution and hope for the future.
Activities» Open debt centres in partnership with local churches in new areas where there is most need for debt help.
» Publicise the new centres when they open to let local people know that help is available.
What success will look like
Success will be...opening 80 new CAP Debt Centres in 2013. Each of these centres will offer hope to their local community.
The long-term changes will be clients become debt free. This can take up to five years. This journey to debt freedom will also result in sustainable financial habits, homes saved from repossession, children fed and clothed, marriages restored and the cycle of debt and poverty broken for our clients.
The ultimate success will be demonstrated by the number of new centres opened, although each centre’s performance (clients visited in their homes, debt free clients etc.) will also measure success.
We need churches to partner with us to run a local CAP centre in their community. We have therefore created a dedicated team to run events, talks and attend conferences in order to promote our work. We have also created a dedicated role to help us focus our efforts in recruiting new centres in vital areas. We hope these measures will allow us to reach our target of opening 80 new centres in 2013.
Quarterly mailings to regular monthly donors and a charity report to charitable trusts and key donors. Our Annual Report is also available on request and details both yearly targets and performance.
