Equality in Education
The project will help Roma children in three different schools to express who they are, their ethnic and cultural differences and their aspirations as young people, through the medium of multi-media documentaries.
Inequality and tensions between Roma and non-Roma young people in school and in the community.
Through the medium of multi-media, the young Roma people who participate in the project will develop pride in their ethnic identity, be more willing to talk about it to their non-Roma friends. It will also help non-Roma young people and their parents understand Romani culture better.
Equality initially aim to approach three schools that have a significant number of Roma pupils.
Activities» Equality would seek 10 pupils at each school, aged 11 - 15, who would work to produce a documentary project per school
Success will be.. The production of an audio slideshow that has a good chance of finding a place on a national or local newspaper’s website
The project will ultimately raise awareness of the Romani culture and reduce inequality between Roma and non-Roma members of society resulting in less discrimination and violence towards this ethnic minority.
The project will also have a positive effect on Roma peers who are under pressure to drop-out of school.
Equality will report to donors through written accounts of the progress and successes of the project.
