Fun, Friendship and Good Health
We are looking to fund some of our core costs to enable us to continue to run sports and social activities for young disabled people and, to run a 1:1 befriending scheme for older disabled people. Our aim is to help reduce social isolation, to keep people healthy and promote independence..
As long as people want to use our service then it will be ongoing.
Charity information: Jigsaw Bury
Disabled people for many reasons, young and old, are often socially isolated and can lack confidence.
Also disabled people, young and old, don't get enough exercise.
Our 1:1 befriending scheme for older disabled people, who are often isolated at home with little or no family contact, will ensure that people have a regular visitor, someone to chat to on a regular basis.
Our social and sports activities for our younger members will give young people activities to take part in on a regular basis and the sporting activities will help to keep people healthy.
Reduce social isolation
Activities» Run a 1:1 befriending scheme for older disabled people and run regular sports and social activities.
What success will look like
Success will be:
1. Having 25 volunteers to be 1:1 befrienders
2. Having 25 older disabled people matched up with a volunteer
3. Organising 2 x group social activities per week
Improve people's health
Activities» Run weekly sports sessions including football, basketball, swimming, aerobics and gym sessions and provide healthy eating classes.
What success will look like

1. Running 5 x sports sessions per week
2 Entering 5 x sports competitions per year
3. Offering the sports to at least 90 people
We will reduce the isolation and loneliness felt by our members and thus increase confidence and self esteem. We will have more people who are healthier from taking part in regular sport and exercise.
We will demonstrate that at least 75% of people will feel less isolated after receiving the Jigsaw service. And that at least 75% of people will feel fitter and healthier after using the Jigsaw service.
1. Funding - in the current economic climate the biggest risk is that funding for the service could dry up. We are addressing this by continuously looking at new ways of sustainable funding, as well as applying for grants.
2.Staff/volunteers/trustees may leave - we have good systems in place to recruit new staff/trustees/volunteers - in fact volunteers come to us very easily without much work on our part!
If required donors can have Jigsaw's monthly newsletter and can have statistics on a 6 monthly basis as well as being able to actually come along to any of the Jigsaw events.

We have been running as a charity in our own right since 2006 and previously we were a project of another charity since the late 1980s, so we have a good history of working with our members, providing the projects that they require.
We have excellent staff and volunteers and we have good financial systems in place.
We are in touch with our members and what they want and have members on the board of trustees as well as having fundraising and publicity committees which are made up of members.

‘I have enjoyed so many opportunities to get involved and build my confidence-levels. I have been able to enjoy improved concentration levels and improved fitness levels. Jigsaw is a massive piece of my life- if I didn’t have Jigsaw I’d be lost without it’
