Young People in Crisis
Young people in Plymouth can find themselves facing crisis for many reasons. We are developing a fund that can help by providing a small emergency grant - examples such as xx is from a single parent family and needs £100 to pay for rail ticket for job interview or £50 for a pair of shoes for college
April 2013 - March 2014
Charity information: The Plymouth Drake Foundation
Overcoming disadvantage that some young people, not necessarily through fault of their own, find themselves in. They can be be disadvantaged through poverty, family breakdown, drug or alcohol abuse (again not necessarily their own), pregnancy etc
By providing a small grant, on referral from trusted sources, that can help overcome a problem. They may have the opportunity of a job interview but require a suit, they may have an urgent medical appointment but can't afford to make the journey. A small amount (up to £100) can make a huge difference in these circumstances.
To be recognised as the 'go to' charity that can help local young people in need of financial help
Activities» By developing a fund that can be used for this purpose and promoting through our network of contacts
What success will look like
Success will be measured by the number of approaches for help and support and the number of young people helped
The impact on the lives of the young people concerned will vary but in some cases could be dramatic. We will seek case studies and use these to further promote the value of the fund and attract future donations into it.
Risks include lack of awareness of the fund availability (unlikely) or the number of applicants exceeding the amount available for funding. Should the latter happen then this makes the case for future donations even stronger.
we will report annually along with case studies

We are the community charity for Plymouth - a 'charity of charities' - who support small voluntary organisations and charities. Our patronage/outreach includes business leaders, church leaders, city councillors and members of parliament and as such we are continually asked for advice on funding solutions
