  • Need

The project is trying to solve the difficulties for carers who feel isolated due to their caring role, giving them the opportunity of having away days with people in similar circumstances. Another problem solved with the purchase of a people carrier, families can travel to the cancer Centre together if having family support at the cancer Centre. The larger vehicle would be used to transport people to our charity choir who have no means of transport themselves. A volunteer would drive.

The project will solve the problem due to the size of the vehicle. Currently the charity relies heavily on volunteers using their own cars to transport carers and families.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

to help carers meet other carers who are in similar circumstances.

» To transport families using the new vehicle, such as a people carrier into the cancer centre and away days.

    What success will look like

Success will be demonstrated by the number of people transported into the cancer Centre and the number of activities they utilise. Monitoring forms will be filled in by all groups.

  • Impact

The long term changes are that our families will have new experiences, through visiting local attractions, our carers will have the opportunity of making new friends and feeling less isolated in their caring role. The families seeking group support will have professional help which will help them live with cancer and build their relationships with their families while going through difficult times.

There are no current risks with this project, if successful with donors for the project, we have the families who are waiting to have access to the services at the cancer Centre.

Reporting will be made to the donors, by press cuttings from our local newspaper, letters received with personal stories and letters received by the charity from the families accessing the transport from the newly purchased vehicle. Monitoring forms will be available to users of the vehicle.

  • Background

The project will be located in the Valleys of South Wales, Rhondda Cynon Taff for families whose lives are touched by cancer. Due to the geography of the Valleys, many of our families feel isolated and alone. If they are caring for someone or if suffering from cancer.

Rhondda Cynon Taff comes under a 'Communities First' area which is one of the most deprived areas in Wales. The industry has been wiped out with the closure of all the coal mines and unemployment is at it's highest in this area in Wales. The charity currently supports over 8,000 people and all services available to families affected by cancer are free.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Rowan Tree Cancer Care has been established for 12 years, we are local and community based and recently secured a tender with Cwm Taff Trust Local Health Board. The secured tender is a contribution towards transport and counselling costs for the charity. We have purchased our new cancer centre, through our own fundraising and community fundraising and donations. Families trust our services and we are so proud of our achievements to date.
