Sponsor a day at Maggie's

So much can happen in a day. Today, for instance, around 800 people will have their lives changed forever by a diagnosis of cancer. But sponsor a day at Maggie’s, and you could help to give them the emotional, practical and social support they need.

  • Need

The NHS generally excels when it comes to cancer diagnosis and treatment but there are some areas when it simply cannot provide the support people need. For example, people often struggle to process information during hospital appointments, and can get confused and worried by inappropriate information from other sources such as the Internet. Also in hospital environments, it is rarely possible to find the time and space to explore what cancer means to an individual and their family.

Maggie’s offer a place for people to turn to for help with any of the problems, large or small, associated with living with cancer. We support people at any stage of the cancer journey, with a dedicated team of professional staff on hand to help overcome fear, manage stress and anxiety, and get the most out of medical treatment. This support is delivered from an eye-catching yet homely building, designed to comfort and reassure people at a time of great vulnerability.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Fund 20 days worth of Maggie's vital support to people with cancer, their families and friends

» A gift of £3,000 will cover all the costs of keeping your Maggie’s open for a whole day and staffed with professional experts.

    What success will look like

Success will be...we can continue to be there for people struggling with the shock of a cancer diagnosis and help them plan how to live with cancer

  • Impact

We aim to help people achieve the best possible state of psychological and physical health during diagnosis, treatment and throughout the cancer journey. Our evaluations and feedback from Centre visitors suggest we help people confront challenges that improve their quality of life. This includes improved understanding of cancer, helping to address issues that improve communication with family and friends and maximising household income.

We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to fund our Centres. We have an experienced and skilled fundraising team that work hard to ensure our supporters have the best experience of supporting Maggie's, and want to continue doing so.

People can choose a particular day and a particular Centre they want to sponsor. This will then be their day for the year. They will receive a special welcome pack and an invitation to visit the Centre they have sponsored. They will receive an annual report on the difference their support has made.

  • Background

Maggie's currently has ten purpose-built Centres and two interim services across Scotland, England and Wales. Our Centres are conveniently and accessibly located in the grounds of cancer treatment hospitals. Our Centres blend visionary archiecture with warm, homely spaces, which inspire people to come in and feel comfortable seeking support.

The key beneficiaries are people living with cancer, their families and friends. Maggie's supports people from the moment they ask for help, free of charge, and unconditionally, for as long as that help is needed. People use Maggie’s in a variety of ways including for cancer treatment information, specific advice such as benefits advice or nutrition, information about life after cancer treatment and to meet others with cancer or carers.
