FUND FOR LIVING
This project was developed to provide financial assistance women and men undergoing breast cancer treatment to cover problems that may not be addressed or covered by the NHS or health insurance programs; small things like transport, babysitters, bras, etc that can make life significantly better.
Charity information: Breast Health International
No one should have to make this decision: should I leave my sick child home alone or should I go to my chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Funding for these types of problems are either not accessible or difficult to get. There must be somewhere these people can go to find relief. Cancer treatments can take a major toll not only on the psyche and physical but also the finances. These issues need to be addressed in order to relieve the stress that is already inherent their diagnosis.
Breast Health International's Fund For Living program assists by helping those in need by providing funds for transportation, bras, wigs, home-care, etc. Beginning in January 2013, we hope to extend our Fund For Living programs in each major city in the UK in the next year. We will be meeting with local hospitals and charities to work toward the Fund For Living becoming a part of their community.
Establish Fund For Living programs in eight new hospitals next year.
Activities» Research and investigate which hospitals throughout the UK have the most need for our Fund.
» Establish a protocol for the Fund with the hospitals administrators, physicians and nursing staff to be able to address the patients' needs.
What success will look like
Success will be able to bring this Fund to our projected number of hospitals within the UK this year.
With the establishment of the Fund For Living in a hospital, patients will be relieved of making unnecessary stressful decisions during their treatment. They will know there is a Fund For Living available to help them in their time of need. If the Fund For Living program can help just one patient, then it has been a success. We know that patients have better results when they are relieved of added stress.
There is a risk that the hospitals have not made it clear to patients that the Fund is available to them. We can deal with this by keeping in constant contact with them via phone and in person.
We require that each hospital provide a three-month report of how the funds are being spent. It explains each separate donation and how it was used.

Breast Health International was established in the UK in 2004. The Fund For Living program has been in existence since 2005. It is currently running in five countries throughout Europe. Given our previous experience, we feel we have the tools necessary to expand this program throughout the rest of the UK successfully.
